How about creating templates for the comments system that match the themes that are included when you install Radio?

By the way, I received mail about the comments system. It was giving MySQL error messages when trying to post a message. That's correct. I wasn't able to login to my account earlier today, and when I checked my mailbox, a message from my hosting provider was there. They are having problems with the server that runs the database, and they're working on it. When they're done, the comments system should work just fine.

I've been listening to Adam Curry's audioblog for a while now, and his iPodder project has got my attention. I don't own a mobile MP3 device myself, which I regret, but the project is kind of interesting. And, finally, I can play along. Or, at least a bit.

Pieter has done two things for me (well, not for me, but you'll probably understand what I mean): he created a Windows script to automatically download enclosures. I tried it, and it works deliciously. At this moment, a 'netstat' command gives me the information that there's a connection with cloud2.urj.nl, which is Adams server, and indeed, his MP3 files are placing themselves nicely on my harddisk. So, Pieter: great work! When I think of suggestions, you will hear or read them from me.

The second thing Pieter did is show me how Windows scripting works. His script turns out to be a JavaScript file! I did not know you could use that directly in the OS. Great! I keep learning things every day. I like it. Someday I will try and create my own little thingies, after I'm done playing with Frontier, which is what I'm trying to teach myself right now.

Anyway, to return to the subject: your script worked fine, Pieter. A message just popped up, saying it's finished collecting. And the files are there. Keep up the good work!

By the way, I just pressed F5 a few times on this page, and damn, it's fast! Love it already.

Okay, the comments system is in use now at three sites: this one, and two Dutch blogs. If you understand Dutch, please take a look at JW and Bakkel, and see how their comments are doing. Later this afternoon, I want to continue working on the system. Here's what I want to be done by the end of the day:
  • clean up the code, it's a bit messy now
  • create a trackback implementation. I have trackback built into my other, home made, blog, so I can re-use code from there.
  • create the option to control templates
  • build login options for blog owners (to be able to moderate comments when that option gets built in, but also to edit templates, site name, and other things)
  • think of a name for the system ('comment system' isn't a very good name, is it?)
I could do all this in the afternoon and the evening, I think. Actually, I can do more, but there's more work to do besides this. ;)

If you have suggestions, remember to let me know! (use this: Click here to send an email to the editor of this weblog. or the comment link)
