Dude, have I been busy..

I've not been very active on this blog lately, and that's all because I have lack of time. I'm busy, but fortunately, I totally like it.

Here's my current life: on october 1st, I started a new job. After finishing my education as an IT guy I started looking for a job. I wanted to find a job where I could do what I really like to do: develop. Create stuff, puzzle around. The job I've taken is called 'PHP/MySQL developer', which means that I'm finally doing what I've been doing for years, except now I'm getting paid to do it. ;)

Next to the new job, I'm working hard to speed up a Dutch community I volunteer for: Fok.nl. With over 100.000 accounts registered, it's quite large, and our web servers sometimes cannot handle all the visits our users are paying to our site. Last week I installed Turck mmCache on all the web servers, and that speeded things up quite good. In fact: pageview counts have doubled since last week, and now sometimes the site is slow again, because of the newly reached concurrent-user-limit! That's of course a pity for the visitors, but I like the idea that speeding up the site has attracted so many users who apparently really like our site.

Next to doing some server maintenance, I am also a developer for that site, so I've got always something to do there.

And of course there's radio. And I don't mean the software. I've been doing radio programs, in some form, for about eleven years now, and currently I have a weekly show on a local radio station, where I play music that I like. Also, starting november, I will be co-hosting a radio show on an internet-based Dutch radio station, also weekly, so that's two week nights, every week, that are gone already.

Now, and then there's all this cool iPodder stuff. When Adam Curry started his ideas, I read about them, listened to his podcasts, got enthousiastic, and wanted to 'play along'. I really liked all the ideas, and because I like development, I started subscribing to the mail list, joining the Sourceforge project (although I didn't in fact do anything there because of the lack of time) and creating the iPodder for Radio UserLand.

I regret that I shouted everywhere "hey guys, count me in!" and then just vanished, but if I could help it, I would have managed my time better. I'm sorry if people were starting to count on me for helping out. I really wanted to, I just planned my time in a bad way.

It's also because of my lack of time that I'm happy to hear that UserLand will create it's own Tool for Radio that works as an iPodder. I've spoken to some of the UserLand people (in fact, Steve Kirks Skyped me, asking if using the same name for the Tool as I was using was okay), and I'm looking forward to what they're creating.

This, of course, means that I won't continue working on my own iPodder. Instead, I will submit my ideas to UserLand so they can implement it in the real thing.

And that's it, in a nutshell... my life right now. Busy, crowded, sometimes tiring, but fun as hell!
